Arsenal defender Takehiro Tomiyasu has revealed he was close to a move to Tottenham Hotspur. Before finally being the ” Arsenal ” who grabbed him.

Spurs have been interested in Tomiyasu since August. Before they switched to bringing Brazilian full-back Emerson from Barcelona on the closing day of the summer instead. 

Meanwhile, the 22-year-old defender moved on the final day of the summer transfer window by signing for Tottenham’s all-time rival Arsenal. and immediately performed impressive results.

Tomiyasu said: “At first I thought I wasn’t even going to Arsenal, I thought I might have gone to Spurs. But discussions broke down at the last minute. I turned them down on the deadline. And Arsenal inquired to which I immediately agreed. The transfer of the team was done in a timely manner.”

  Tomiyasu has played for Arsenal in the last seven Premier League games, helping the team to 5 wins, 2 draws and remain unbeaten. 

‘I thought I was going to Spurs. On deadline day, the move broke down. Arsenal asked me to join them and I did immediately.’

Tomiyasu was targeted for his versatility, providing cover for £50m centre-back Ben White as well as his more natural position of right-back. 

White recently talked up Tomiyasu’s talents in an interview with Astro SuperSport, saying: ‘He’s such a nice guy. He fitted straight in when he came. All the boys love him and he’s doing the business on the pitch as well. He is doing really well.’
